The department ICT Services focuses on complex ICT solutions for the
business community, the government and education. The department covers
fields of expertise, such as:
- the management of Unix and Windows servers
- installation and (remote) management of server-based configurations
- the installation and hosting of web servers and information servers
- the management of database management systems
- advice and consultancy in the above-mentioned fields.
Remote
management of systems is one of the strongly developed expertises of
this department. Based on the so-called thin-client concept (or server-based
computing) a method has been developed which is suitable for businesses
and educational institutes. This is an attractive option that can be
very cost-effective.
Our extensive experience in the above-mentioned fields has resulted
in SARA's position as prominent supplier of these specialized services
to publishers, news media, municipalities and education, etc.
"Co-location", also called "housing", is one of
the core facilities of SARA. Almost all services and products of SARA
have an aspect of co-location. Therefore SARA is one of the most experienced
and most successful co-location sites in the Netherlands.
Among SARA's customers of co-location services are some very special
ones. For example, the Dutch national supercomputers (Teras/Aster),
the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), Europe's largest Internet
Exchange Point, and NetherLight, an optical Internet Exchange for academic
research networks. The national and international importance of this
type of systems is of such a nature, that the co-location facilities
of SARA are fully in accordance with the latest demands in the market.
The ICT Services department is responsible for the high level of the
facilities and for the support that is provided to customers for their
critical processes. This can vary from the installation of hardware
up to and including the handling of failures. Safety and reliability
have the highest priority. The department offers a 24x7-hours service.
Guaranteed quality of service has a prominent place.
SARA is an interesting partner, especially because of the unique combination
of advanced techniques, flexibility and independence.
