SARA and Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre foundation (NBIC) sign core
partner agreement
On 29 March 2005, Dr. R.G. Kok, operational director of NBIC, and SARA
director Dr. Ir. A. Osseyran signed the core partner agreement between
NBIC and SARA. The signing of this agreement confirms the productive
cooperation that has been established between NBIC and SARA in the previous
years.
One of the aims of NBIC is to stimulate and coordinate scientific research
in association with genomics, bioinformatics and data processing. A
specific point of interest is the setup, management and development
of bioinformatics support activities and a bioinformatics (knowledge)
infrastructure in the Netherlands. The realization of joint bioinformatics
research, support and education community in the border region of genomics,
bioinformatics and data processing in the Netherlands is of importance
as well.
The cooperation with the NBIC fits seamless into SARAs role as
national e-Science Support Center. SARA offers NBIC services in the
field of high performance computing, high performance networking, hosting
and visualization. SARA manages the portal of the NBIC, and also several
applications among which Rosetta, Blast and SRS.
Besides NBIC and SARA, the Radboud University Nijmegen (Radboud) and
the University of Amsterdam (UvA) are core partners as well. Both Radboud
and UvA give an important contribution by introducing long-term experience
and know-how in the field of (bio)informatics.
SARA is very pleased with the cooperation and expects to further develop
her reputation in the life sciences with NBIC, Radboud and UvA in the
coming years.
