Successful DEISA Symposium in Paris
On May 9 and 10, SARA participated in the DEISA Symposium "Perspectives
in High Performance Computing" in the Palais des Congrès
(Porte Maillot, Paris, France). This symposium was the first of a series
that will take place every year in April/May in different locations
in Europe.
The aim is to annually organize a DEISA event that will be dedicated
to the discussion of the scientific and strategic challenges in the
area of High Performance Computing, and to assess the impact of the
DEISA research infrastructure on computational science in Europe.
At the same time, the symposium was the official start of DEISA for
users. The symposium was especially useful for users who consider submitting
a proposal for a DEISA project and for users interested in HPC in general.
What is DEISA?
Led by IDRIS-CNRS (France) the DEISA project started its activities
in May 2004 with eight partners: FZJ and RZG in Germany, CINECA in Italy,
EPCC and ECMWF in the UK, CSC in Finland and SARA in the Netherlands.
The project is partially funded by the European Commission under the
6th Framework Program, as part of a vigorous initiative aimed at deploying
grid enabled, production quality research infrastructures in Europe.
