SARA looks back on successful DEISA PRACE Symposium 2009
From 11-13 May, the DEISA PRACE Symposium was held in the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam. The symposium was hosted by SARA and NCF. It was the first time that the Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications (DEISA) and the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) combined their annual conferences in one large European event.
The 3-day symposium focused on the developments in Petascale supercomputing in Europe, USA and Japan. It was also discussed how to arrange the support for Grand Challenges in the various scientific areas that are of importance for our future generations.
This joint symposium illustrates the strategic importance of the cooperation between DEISA and PRACE, which will give European scientists access to a sustainable European high-end computing service.
The European Commission and national governments support the approach of DEISA and PRACE and are committed to the goals of both projects.
