Publication "Het belang van High Performance Computing voor Nederland"

SARA and NCF have recently released a publication titled "Het belang van High Performance Computing voor Nederland" (The Importance of High Performance Computing in the Netherlands). This publication consists of more than forty examples of frontier scientific research in the Netherlands using the national supercomputer Huygens.

Besides a description of the studies, this issue contains an outline of the major social impact of such research and of the petascale challenges for the future. It makes clear that top facilities on petascale level in the Netherlands are necessary to continue top research in the future.

"Het belang van High Performance Computing voor Nederland" is a central topic in the ICTRegie proposal "Towards a competitive ICT infrastructure for scientific research in the Netherlands", which was offered to minister Plasterk on December 15, 2008. ICTRegie has produced an integrated proposal for the ICT research infrastructure for scientific research in the Netherlands.

The focus of this proposal is to achieve the best possible ICT infrastructure for scientific research with the ambition to give the Netherlands a key position in Europe in the field of High Performance Computing in The Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE).
