SARA signs "klimaattafelovereenkomst"

On November 4, the Green-IT Consortium Regio Amsterdam has been officially launched. With the signing of a "table climate agreement", the municipality of Amsterdam and 27 companies in the energy and ICT sector, including SARA, officially confirmed this milestone achievement.

SARA director Dr. ir. Anwar Osseyran is chairman of the initiative group that has prepared this agreement by order of the Climate Center of the municipality of Amsterdam. The Green-IT Consortium Regio Amsterdam wants to develop projects in which ICT contributes substantially to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

In 2025, the CO2 emissions of the city as a whole have to be reduced by 40% compared to that of 1990. The climate program of the municipality of Amsterdam focuses on energy reduction, production and use of renewable energy, and efficient use of fossil energy.

In the Amsterdam area are about 100 datacenters that consume large amounts of energy. The ICT industry also intends to operate more economical and sustainable. During the meeting, Anwar Osseyran and Marijke Vos, alderwoman for environmental affairs, stated that they are confident that this ambition can be achieved. Osseyran: "This is an important milestone in the greening of ICT and other sectors using ICT in the Amsterdam region. Together we will help the municipality to achieve the CO2 reduction targets."

The climate table agreement has a duration of at least four years, from 2010 to 2013.
