Axel Berg

High Performance Computing & Visualization –
SARA

Axel Berg has a PhD in Biochemistry from Wageningen University, NL. He has worked as a post-doc on paramagnetic NMR at the University of Leiden.

Axel Berg joined SARA in 1997 as a consultant in High Performance Computing and Visualization. He was group leader on Visualization and Virtual Reality at SARA until 1999. In 2000 he became responsible for the High Performance Computing department at SARA. Since 2004 he is manager of the High Performance Computing and Visualization business unit at SARA.

The business unit is responsible for the Dutch National Supercomputing service, the National Compute cluster, mass-storage, grid and visualization services, and participation in many national and international HPC, e-Science and grid projects, e.g. Virtual Laboratory e-Science, BioRange and EU funded projects like EGEE, DEISA, HPC-Europa, PRACE. Axel Berg is member of the DEISA executive committee.
