Dr. Patrick J.C. Aerts studied Theoretical Quantum Chemistry at the
University of Groningen. PhD on Relativistic Quantum Chemistry in 1986.
Involved in National Supercomputing Policy since 1985.
Joined the National Working Group on the use of Supercomputers (WGS)
in 1985, secretary of the WGS since 1986.
Director of the Netherlands National Computing Facilities Foundation
(NCF) since 1990, responsible for the high-end national computing infrastructure.
Member board of directors Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research
(NWO).
Chairman Employees Council of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
Advisor to the board of 'ICT for Science' of the SURF Foundation. SURF
Foundation is responsible for the advancement of ICT use for higher
education and research and sole shareholder of SURFnet bv.
Chairman of the section of computer applications of the Royal Netherlands
Chemical Society, till 2006.
Theme coordinator of NWO's e-Science Program (D&I),
till 2006.
Official Netherlands delegate to the e-IRG, the e-Infrastructures Reflection
Group (e-IRG), of which chairman on behalf of the Netherlands (from
1-7-2004) and on behalf of Luxemburg (till 30-6-2005).
Project leader of the e-IRG Support Program (e-IRGSP) 2005-2007; Member of the e-IRGSP2-program.
Member and Chairman of SIRENE (Sharing Infrastructure and
Resources iN Europe), a cooperative association of countries for strategic
collaboration on a pan-European Science Grid for the advancement of
science, research and development.
Member and Dutch representative of PRACE (PartneRship for
Advanced Computing in Europe, in which the Netherlands is one of the five European Principle Partners). Chairman PRACE Jan-Jul 2008.
Official Netherlands delegate to the European Grid Initiative (EGI) Policy Board.
Member of the Executive committee of the International Exascale Software Project (IESP initiative).
Offical PRACE respresentative in the European E-infrastructure Forum (EEF).
