In 2008 SARA has started a market-oriented subsidiary: Vancis. The start of Vancis emerged from the need to create a clear separation between the market-oriented services and the activities SARA performs as national institute for High Performance Computing and Networking. The separation gives both SARA and Vancis the opportunity to optimally develop their own core businesses.
The dividing line between SARA and Vancis is determined by the type of service provided. If a specific service is available in the IT market, in other words if the service in question can also be supplied by a competitor, the service will be provided by Vancis. If that is not the case, SARA will offer the service. In this context, it is irrelevant how high-end or low-end the service is or to what kind of client it is provided.
